FLOTILLA 22

ITHACA, N.Y.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is
the civilian volunteer element of the U.S. Coast Guard team. The purpose
of the Auxiliary is to promote boating safety through public education, vessel
safety checks, on the water operations to assist boaters in distress, and other
programs.
Flotilla 22 in Ithaca
carries out these Auxiliary missions under the direction of Auxiliary division
and district officers, Coast Guard Station Oswego
(N.Y.), and the Coast Guard District Headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio.
We are actively involved in the following cornerstone missions:
- Public Education - Boating classes are held
regularly at the flotilla base at in Ithaca. Currently scheduled classes are the
following:
America’s Boating
Course:
This course will be offered on 2
consecutive Saturday mornings from 9am to 2 pm on the following dates:
April 9 and 16
May 14 and 21
June 4 and 11
The cost of this course is $ 35.00 and
includes a text and CD for additional home study.
All courses will be offered at the USCG
Auxiliary Base – 508 Old Taughannock Blvd., Ithaca,
New York.
Each of these courses will satisfy the New York State requirement for the legal
operation of a Personal Watercraft.
As such, following successful completion of this course, each student
will be awarded a certificate and ID card indicating that they have fulfilled the
New York State requirement to legally operate a
personal watercraft. In some
instances, completion of one of these courses may result in an insurance
premium discount.

- Vessel Safety Checks- Free Vessel Safety Checks are
offered throughout the boating season and specifically on the second and
fourth Saturdays in June, July, and August at local marinas. This is
a voluntary inspection of a vessel to determine if it meets safety and
legal requirements. Call 607-273-7175 to make an appointment.
- Operations - On the water safety patrols are conducted
on Cayuga Lake on weekends and holidays
during the summer. Assistance is given to boaters in distress. Search and
rescue operations are conducted as needed in cooperation with the Coast
Guard, fire departments, and local marine law enforcement agencies.

- Fellowship - We enjoy working as a team and sharing
friendship as we carry out the missions and operation of the Flotilla.
Scheduled and impromptu social events, dinners/barbeques,
on-the-water-rendezvous, and just plain fun take place frequently.
Flotilla 22 has been serving
the Southern and Central, N.Y. area for over 60 years. We continually
seek new members interested in actively performing a public service to the
boating community. Meetings are held at 7 PM on the second Tuesday of every
month except December at the Flotilla 22 base building at 508 Old Taughannock Boulevard
in Ithaca
