Post a Message

To send a message to all of BC-L's 700+ subscribers, address your message to <BC-L@cornell.edu>. Only subscribers to BC-L may post to the list.

For a list of posting rules, see the BC-L Informational Bulletin.

Contact the Mangement To contact the list manage team, write to <BC-L-request@cornell.edu>. Please include your e-mail address.

All commands below need to be placed in the body of e-mail and sent to <ListProc@cornell.edu>. Type the command on the first line in the body of your e-mail message. Do not add any extra text such as a signature. All commands are case insensitive.
Subscribe a Friend

To subscribe, have your friend send the following command to <ListProc@cornell.edu>:

subscribe BC-L fullname

replacing "fullname" with your friend's real full name.

Check Your Subscription Status

To check your subscription status and mail delivery option, send the following command to <ListProc@cornell.edu>:

query BC-L

If you stop receiving mail unexpectedly, check your subscription status before writing to the list management at <BC-L-request@cornell.edu> for help.

Receive Messages
Individually or as Digests

You may receive list mail as individual messages or grouped into digests. The default when you subscribe or re-subscribe is individual messages. The digest is a compilation of several messages into one large e-mail message with a table of contents.

To change your mail delivery option to the digest, send the following command to <ListProc@cornell.edu>:

set BC-L mail digest

To change your mail delivery option to individual messages, send the following command to <ListProc@cornell.edu>:

set BC-L mail ack

Temporarily Stop Mail Delivery

To suspend you subscription temporarily, send the following command to <ListProc@cornell.edu>:

set BC-L mail postpone

Messages are not held for later delivery, but archives are kept for up to two weeks.

To un-postpone and resume mail delivery, send either the ack or digest command described above.

Cancel Your Subscription

To cancel your subscription, send the following command to <ListProc@cornell.edu>

unsub BC-L

If you send this and receive a message back from ListProc that you are not subscribed and therefore cannot unsubscribe, contact the list management at <BC-L-request@cornell.edu>. Most likely the routing of your address has changed and you will need to be removed manually.

Access the Archives

Archives of BC-L digests are kept for at least two weeks. Access is restricted to subscribers only.

To obtain an index, send an e-mail message with the following command in the body to <ListProc@cornell.edu>:

index BC-L

To obtain a specific digest from the archive, send the following command (delete the brackets):

get BC-L digest<number>

For example: get BC-L digest4132
