Adoption Steps |
Border Collies come in many types of personalities, sizes, and colors. Most have a high energy level and need something to do that stimulates them mentally and physically. They are best placed in working, sports, or active companion homes.
It is our goal to find permanent homes for these misplaced "wonderdogs", and to make the best match possible between rescued Border Collies and the people who would like to adopt them.
Note: The following steps describe, in general, how TBCR goes about finding new homes for rescued Border Collies. We can and do vary the steps as needed to accommodate the dog's or adopter's situations.
Step One |
Fill out the TBCR adoption application. Please be detailed! The application is a starting place from which we might ask more questions based on the information given. Note: If you have already filled out an application for another rescue group, please tell us -- we accept applications from other rescue groups. If you are interested in a particular TBCR dog, we will assess how well this dog matches your needs and vice versa. If we do not feel that this particular dog is the right one for you, we will notify you. If we think another rescuer may have a suitable dog, we will pass your application along. If you are not seeking a particular TBCR dog, we will notify you if and when a suitable TBCR dog becomes available. We may call or e-mail you for additional information. If we think another rescuer may have a suitable dog, we will pass your application along. |
Step Two |
If, based on your application, we think we may have the right dog for you, we (or someone acting on our behalf) will make arrangements to visit you at your home and discuss what type of dog would be best suited for your needs. If a home visit is not possible because of geographic constraints, we will request a video or photos of your home and family members, and will conduct a detailed phone interview. |
Step Three |
We will set up a time for you and the dog to meet. This meeting may be at our home, at yours, or someplace in between, depending on geographic constraints. |
Step Four |
If you and the dog are mutually happy, we will proceed with the adoption. You will need to read and sign the adoption agreement, and pay the adoption fee. TBCR is strictly not-for-profit. Any money received covers the expenses of rescuing that dog and other Border Collies. After you adopt a dog from us, we will contact you within a few weeks to ensure that everyone is adjusting well. Of course, you are urged to contact us at any time to ask questions, tell us a funny story, or just say hello. We love to hear about our special friends. |
Thank you for considering one of our rescued Border Collies!
