Lookout at Rollins Pound. Tavi checks out the very small, very vocal dog several campsites away, at Rollins Pond Campground in the Adirondacks. In Tavi's mind, very small dogs were in the same category as hamsters, chipmunks, frogs, and squirrels. We never could figure out whether herding or chasing was the factor at work, or how all their doggy characteristics escaped his notice. Needless to say, this calling caused many lost points in the 4-H arena and made us rather unpopular with small-dog fanciers. (August 1996)
